Jeff Walton

SAXOPHONIST | COMPOSER | EDUCATOR

After 16 years of classroom teaching and band directing in NYC, I am thrilled to dedicate more time to private and small-group music lessons. I began saxophone lessons at the age of 9 and have continued taking lessons into my late 30’s. Over the years I have had amazing teachers (and not so great ones, too!) in saxophone, jazz improvisation, and composition as well as piano, voice, guitar, and drums.

My life changed forever when I found a sax teacher who could teach me jazz (thanks, Negra Powell!). Although I direct a middle school band program now, I did not do middle school band because I thought the music was lame. This has shaped me as a teacher, and I tailor lessons to the interests and needs of each student.

I offer 1-on-1 lessons in person as well as over Zoom. (Guardians are welcome to attend or zoom in!)

I have taught students from age 8 to age 65 in a classroom setting, and as a middle school teacher I have a knack for motivating young adults!

If you are interested in music lessons with a professional teacher, please send me a message to tell me about your goals!
